No, not the fun game show form GSN… but probably more helpful. I am listing a ton of acronyms to infertility speak. Things that I may shorten here on my blog and you may (or may not) need a reference to understand.
- RE = Reproductive Endocrinologist (mine is Dr. Chin, he ROCKS)
- IF = Infertility
- TTC = Trying to Conceive
- BFP = Big Fat Positive (pregnancy test)
- BFN = Big Fat Negative (pregnancy test)
- AF = Aunt Flo (menses)
- PG = Pregnant
- CD = Cycle Day
- U/S = Ultrasound
- B/W = Bloodwork
- PCOS = Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (stupid cause of my IF)
- IR = Insulin Resistance
- Met = Metformin (drug used to battle PCOS & IR)
- DEX = Dexamethasone (Drug I use to regulate my adrenal gland)
- BBT = Basal Body Temperature
- IUI = Intrauterine Insemination
- LH = Lutienizing Hormone (surges just before ovulation)
- FSH = Follicle Stimulating Hormone (helps follicles to grow before ovulation)
- HCG = Human Chorionic Gonadotropin- Hormone injected to “trigger” ovulation, also hormone level that increases when pregnant
- HSG = Hysterosalpingogram (dye test to see if tubes are blocked and uterine cavity is normal shape)
- 2ww= 2 week wait-urgh the dreaded time in between ovulation and when you can start POAS
- POAS= Pee(ing) on a stick- testing for possible pregnancy.
- DPO= Days post ovulation
- DPIUI= Days post IUI
- OPK/ OPT= Ovulation predictor kit/test- picks up on LH in urine stream
- HPT= Home Pregnancy Test
- BETA= test for HCG in blood stream. levels will tell if you are pregnant and they need to double every 2 days for the pregnancy to be considered a “keeper”
- D&C= Dialation and Curettage- One of my largest fears. This is when you have a miscarriage and they have to dialate your cervix and scrape out any fetal matter.
- IVF- In vitro fertilization- my Insurance doesn’t cover it so I’ll probably never have it done.
- SA- semen analysis
- MC- miscarriage… hope I never have to use this one.
hope this helps!
