waking up to a needle in the stomach… oh joy!
I had a Dr.s appointment yesterday. Well, a nurses appointment I guess, my Dr. wasn’t in in the morning so the nurse did my ultrasound and took some blood work. It appears I have several follicles on each side, but my right side (no tube) is bigger again this month. So as not to repeat the crappy cycle we had last month my Dr. looked at my ultrasound and blood work and prescribed a new shot for me. Ganirelix. It is the GnRH antagonist that I think I have blogged about before. It’s going to keep my body from producing LH, which is what makes women ovulate, because if I had a small amount in my system it would ruin my eggs before they were mature.
While very happy that he prescribed it, I had to find it fast. And my prescription company had to approve it’s usage because it’s on their Dangerous Drug list. So they had to see how my Dr. was going to use it and have their pharmacist approve it’s use.
So I was fighting all day yesterday trying to get it approved. They told me my copay for one month would be $50. So I said, Ok. Only a few pharmacies in the area carry it, because most infertility drugs are ’specialty’ drugs and usually not common enough for the local pharmacy to stock. Luckily though Sandy, Dr. Chins wonderful nurse, tracked down 3 shots for me.
So we get in the car and drive to the Deer Park (not the greatest neighborhood) Walgreens. So, we get there and they say my copay is $100 and I’m like, ‘nuh-uh, it’s $50′. So I pay $100 and now have to call my prescription plan and get them to refund me the money. Drama!
So I think this brings my total medications up to 10 now. yep I’m on 10 medications. I don’t think my 82 year old grandma is on that many meds. 3 of them are shots. I am eternally grateful though that none of my shots need to go into muscle yet. Those you can’t really do yourself, and they hurt. *knocks on wood*
So I took my new shot when I woke up this morning and I’ll do the same tomorrow before I go back to the DR. I’ll know more then. Blog at ya later….

yeah, because I already have insulin issues my doc thinks I’ll have GD too… so possibly more shots in my future! If I get that far!
The funniest thing about it being on the Dangerous Drug List is that it says, “do not use if pregnant or may become pregnant”… It’s an Infertility drug! Oh, Irony!
