Earlier this week at Macworld 2008, Steve Jobs unveiled some of the new features and products Apple has been working on for the year. As he puts it, "…we've got all this in the first two weeks of the year and we've still got 50 weeks to go." I have always been a fan of the design and development of Apple products. They just work. Not to mention, most of their products - if not all - are absolutely gorgeous.
The big news at this year's Macword Keynote Address was the launching of a new notebook from Apple called the Macbook Air. It's being touted as "The world's thinnest notebook," and I can definitely see why. At it's thickest point it's still thinner than your average ultra-slim notebook from any of the other major manufacturers.
Top Gear is quite possibly my favorite television show of all-time. Never mind the fact that it’s a British series that does not really air new episodes here in the United States. I have seen most – if not all – episodes in the series, and I’ll leave you to figure out how that is actually possible.
So an American version of Top Gear will be great, right? Well, if it holds true to it’s British roots – yes – it’ll be awesome, but I’m already having my doubts. In a recent interview with NBC reality chief Craig Plestis he is quoted as saying:
This is a favorite of all automobile companies as it shows their cars in such a great light.
Favorite of all automobile companies because it shows their cars in a great light? Has he never seen an episode where Jeremy Clarkson rips the ever-living out of a car’s engineering. They make no attempts to hold back honest reviews of a car’s performance, styling and sensibility. It is one of the main reasons I love the show. Other reasons being: the cinematography is gorgeous, banter with the hosts is often quite hilarious, and the films where they're given a series of near-impossible tasks. Thankfully it sounds like they're keeping the films, and I would hope they'd shoot the show half as prettily … Is that even a word?
I can not see any American companies, who quite frankly are already feeling the pitch of an ever expanding global economy, jumping on board with a show that gives such honest criticism. Unless the show is not honest and they simply pander to “Big American Auto Companies.” Honestly, I’d like a proper American equivalent to the Top Gear series, and hopefully NBC proves me wrong.
The show is set to premiere March 4th at 11:00pm. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. With that I leave you a clip from the British version of Top Gear where Jeremy Clarkson does a short film on a TVR:
That I realize Conan O'brien might possibly be the funniest show host on television. I take that back. Without a doubt Conan O'brien is far and away the greatest show host of all time. Sorry Mr. Carson.
